Disclaimer: there is a lot of privilege in this post and as a champion of social justice and equality I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that. I recognize that most parents do not have the luxury of choosing to stay home or choosing to work. I have friends that stay home full time that wish they could work and I have friends that work full time that wish they could work part time or be home with their kids full time. We have a long ways to go when it comes to supporting pregnant and working parents. Disclaimer over. Rant over.
Okay, here I go. I have been a licensed social worker for going on 12 years now and it is a huge part of my identity. I love being a social worker and I love my job. I knew when we had kids I would want to keep working but I also knew that I would want flexibility in being able to be home, too. After we had our first child, I cut back my schedule and worked anywhere from 6-10 hours a week. It was enough where I felt connected to my field while also basking in the glory of one on one time with my newborn baby (have I mentioned I LOVE babies?)
